Following are some examples of applications
and services that can be offered with the Bourdex Telecom

This is the most common person-to-person application, sending
self-created MMS messages. Self-created content includes photo
exchange, mobile postcards, greeting cards, etc.

Mobile
to Email MMS and Email to Mobile MMS |
| |
Mobile
MMS users can send email messages using this feature. For example,
a mobile MMS user can send an email message to friends with
typical email addresses (john@bourdex.com) via an MMS capable
mobile phone or Pocket PC based PDA. |
|
 |
Sending
an MMS Message using a Legacy SMS Phone |
| |
A legacy SMS user can send an MMS message
to an email address or an MMS capable phone using this feature.
To do this, the legacy SMS user uses a code that corresponds
to specific multimedia content in a multimedia store. Based
on the code, a particular greeting card, clip or photo will
be sent to an MMS user or email account.
For example, an SMS user would type “444 <jane@bourdex.com>
birthday mother” on the SMS phone and send the message.
The MMSc converts this code into a birthday greeting card
for the user’s mother, based on the above typed code.

 |
Sending
MMS Content (Based on Code) from an MMS Phone |
| |
A valid MMS user can send an MMS message
to an MMS capable phone using this feature. The MMS user uses
a code that corresponds to specific multimedia content in
a multimedia store. Based on the code, a particular greeting
card, clip or photo will be sent to an MMS user or email account.
For example, an MMS user would type “444 <jane@bourdex.com>
birthday mother” on the MMS capable phone and send the
message. The MMSc converts this code into a birthday greeting
card for the user’s mother, based on the above typed
code.

|
 |
Receive
MMS Notifications on an SMS phone |
| |
The MMSc can send a URL to a legacy SMS user.
The SMS user will be alerted that they have received an MMS
message, identified by sender, content type and message size.
The SMS user can retrieve the message via PC. If the notification
exceeds 160 characters (the maximum size of an SMS message),
the MMSc will send only the URL to the SMS user. The MMSc
will store the actual multimedia message in the user’s
network-based multimedia mailbox for later viewing.
|
|
 |
Multimedia
Mailbox and Transient Management |
| |
The MMSc provides persistent, network-based
storage for multimedia messages in a user’s multimedia
mailbox (MMBox). The MMBox is a logical entity associated
with the MMS Relay/Server where multimedia messages may be
managed. An MMS user can access their MMBox using a web-based
interface or a User Agent. The user can perform various operations,
including deleting, viewing, uploading and forwarding multimedia
messages in the MMBox. The user can also request the multimedia
message be stored in their MMBox by sending the message to
a special address. If the user does not request that the message
be stored in their MMBox, the message is stored in transient
storage. These network storage options are a convenient option
because of memory constraints in MMS devices.

 |
MMS
Portal |
| |
The MMS portal provides the ability to compose
and send multimedia messages from an operator’s portal
to any MMS capable mobile user. The MMS portal can be a link
in the operator’s existing portal.
Applications such as Greeting Cards and Photo Album are incorporated
as part of the basic package. A graphical user interface (GUI)
assists the user in composing, adding text to and sending
multimedia messages within the Greeting Cards or Photo Album
applications. The applications can be selected from the existing
databases or from the user’s PC hard disk. A greeting
card database can be managed and maintained by an operator
using the MMS portal. Individual MMS users can also manage
and maintain a Photo Album database using the MMS portal.
